Acceptable Use Policy of the COOPERATE database and it's services (Terms of use)
Ilja M. REITER 08/03/2023, Version 2.4
STATEMENT of PHILOSOPHY
The COOPERATE database project is intending to facilitate the acquisition and exchange of data for field sites dedicated to or involved in climate change studies. This project was initiated by ECCOREV (CNRS FR3098) and developed in collaboration with the OSU Pytheas (Gérard Castagnoli), is now managed by ECCOREV, hosted at the DataCenter of AMU (Université Aix-Marseille), and is open to users inside and outside this community.
The database is intended to evolve according to the needs of its users. Therefore, we keep track of research activities and use of the database.
Attractive FEATURES
Attractive features provided to the community are the webinterfaces allowing the user to access, and very rapidly visualise even large quantities of data. Data can also be averaged and visualised according to a scientific treatment. The data-export interface allows integration of time steps and averaging of data, which is then stocked in an account specific to each user, along with an image of the figure of the data. Users may visualise data of several sites in common figures. An interface for the responsible of the datasets to easily validate data, thereby improving its quality, is currently under construction.
GENERAL code of conduct
Please consider the use of this database as a privilege. We count on the common sense of the users, and to that they submit to current research ethics.
Every user needs to register for access.
The responsibility for the quality and availability of the data is in the hand of the Principle Investigator or the person in charge of the data for a station or site. The general terms of use for the data (presentation, publishing or other) is defined here, and refined for each field site in SITE SPECIFIC code of conduct, where necessary.
Use of the data may imply the co-authorship or the mentioning in the acknowledgement, for the person in charge of the stations or the person producing the data. Kindly inform the according responsible(s) of how you are using site data and of any publication plans. If the responsibles feel that someone should be acknowledged or offered participation as authors, they will let you know and we assume that an agreement on such matters will be reached prior to publishing and/or use of the data for publication. Please resolve this question with the persons concerned (see contacts below) in due time.
The use of the database for publications and presentations needs to be cited as a web-resource, as stated below (or similar as according to journal guidelines): Reiter IM, Castagnoli G, Rotereau A (2015) "COOPERATE database", accessed (date) , https://cooperate.eccorev.fr/db and/or the supporters CNRS FR3098 ECCOREV, LABEX OT-Med and OSU-Pythéas are stated in the acknowledgements.
Users are asked to submit presentations and publications in the 'document' section of the database. This is vital to track the use of the data and to evaluate the use of the database. If confidential, or if in conflict with the publishing organism, then at least a description and/or abstract of the work should be given.
Projects making use of the data/site are asked to transmit the description of the project to the COOPERATE management.
SITE SPECIFIC code of conduct
The COOPERATE database includes datasets of several field sites, which are under individual responsibility. Note that for ICOS data a specific code of conduct is published on their website (see below):

Note: The data on greenhouse gas concentrations, as well as the microclimatic data can be retrieved via the webinterface OHP-GEO. Fully validated data can be retrieved via a request to the scientific responsible of the station.
DISCLAIMER
Quality control of the data: Currently data are either non-validated or auto-validated within defined thresholds or fully validated by the responsible of the data via a webinterface. Full valdation may not have been performed on your desired dataset. Contact the respective responsibles of these data to see about full data validation.
UNACCEPTABLE USE
Sharing of accounts is not allowed, nor advised. The logging of the downloaded datasets for each user may help to distribute information concerning the validity or any other aspect after the date of access and data download.
Commercial use of the data is not allowed, without explicit permission of the owner of the data.
Any intentional action leading to a malfunctioning, or destruction of the database is not allowed.
Users and persons in charge of the database are requested to report any misuse to the COOPERATE management, even in case the problem can be solved locally.
CONSEQUENCES of VIOLATING
Please consider the use of this database as a privilege. Violation or abuse of above terms may lead to exclusion of the user. Further, such actions may be prosecuted according to procedures stated by the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique).
Data storage :
Personal data is stored in the same way as thematic data in the databases of COOPERATE.
Use and dissemination of personal data :
Personal data is used to manage access (administrators, auditors, other users, etc.), groups, projects. This same data is visible to any registered user in order to facilitate communication between the different partners.
Deletion of personal data on a case-by-case basis :
At the explicit request of a contributor, his or her personal data may be permanently deleted from the database. To do this, contact the COOPERATE manager (see above).
Maximum retention of personal data :
All personal data will be deleted as soon as the COOPERATE program stops. A process will be used to anonymize the thematic data, in order to store them for various uses.
